Tim Kalke, Talkeetna, AK State Advocate
I am an avid supporter of conservation and have been affiliated with the mission of protecting natural resources and the fragile environment since childhood. Proper backcountry ethics is the first, and most crucial, step in achieving larger goals. In Alaska, the necessity for an effective and efficient program that educates recreational users on proper backcountry ethics and behavior is paramount. As Alaska’s LNT Advocate, I hope to facilitate and assist with the dissemination of information and materials to educators, trainers and the public at large. Additionally, I hope to coordinate and supervise a number of activities and programs that would raise awareness for the Center of Outdoor Ethics. I have been involved with several local organizations that strive to protect various aspects of our ecosystem. Of note, I was on the original board of directors and assisted a local organization, in an adminstrative capacity, during their establishment. I also have coordinated several events, through my own adventure based expedition company, that focused on educating others on the importance of environmentalism and conservation, as well as demonstrating proper backcountry ethics. I would like to assist with the development of similar events, in a diverse range of locations, throughout the state and individuals that are geared towards making a difference.
