Kristin Libberton, Denver, CO State Advocate
I grew up, and still live in, the Denver area. I was fortunate to have the mountains as my playground and parents that made sure I spent plenty of time camping, hiking and boating. During my time as the Colorado State Advocate, my goal is to help others also have the opportunity for these kinds of experiences. I believe that working together, each of us can enjoy the world, and improve it for the next generation. Ultimately, my hope is to bring the LNT trainer community closer together to make our efforts more effective, and provide a stronger support network for each other.

When/Where: Pikes Peak Community College (ADG 125)
Description: Learn the ins and outs of teaching Leave No Trace in the field as part of the Outdoor Leadership and Recreation Technology program at Pikes Peak Community College. Classes of 8-12 students will learn the principles and ecology of the Leave No Trace Outdoor Ethics program by helping identify, assess, and mitigate impacts in beautiful Williams Canon, Manitou Springs. In partnership with the landowner, this course offers students a unique opportunity to get “hands-on” and apply their personal outdoor ethic in a transitional landscape ranging from pristine old growth timber to hidden caves to heavily impacted riparian areas. Students will gain an understanding of Leave No Trace in relation to differing user groups with potentially conflicting interests. Discussions will focus on best management practices to help students understand how to apply the principles of LNT in their own future endeavors. Upon completion, students will receive one (1) hour of college credit and a Trainer certificate from the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics in Boulder, CO. Course includes moderate hiking and personal backpacking gear is required.
