Leave no Trace Trainer Course | Indianapolis, IN

When /Where: Saturday August 21, 2010 at 8:00 a.m. until Sunday August 22, 2010 at 3:00 p.m.  Backpacking in Morgan Monroe State Forest.

Who: This trainer course is for adults and older teens who would like to become qualified to teach Leave No Trace Principles as well as those just wanting to learn more about using our wilderness areas in an environmental friendly manner.

Cost: The cost is $95 per person which covers all training materials, including a disk of teaching resources, meals for the weekend, transportation to the trail head,  group equipment, and your first year of dues to Leave No Trace.

Description: This Trainer Course is sponsored by Camptown, Inc., a not for profit that works with youth through outdoor wilderness experiences.  You will be working not only with Leave No Trace Master Educators, but also staff that has experience working with youth and adults in a variety of outdoor settings.  Our first day will start in the classroom where we will learn about teaching techniques and the history and philosophy of the Leave No Trace Principles.  Then we will distribute food and gear and head to the trailhead, a one hour drive. At the trail head we will pack up and backpack in approximately 1.5 miles to our backcountry campsite.

Since this Trainer class is designed to teach you to teach others, you will be asked to choose a Leave No Trace principle to teach to your classmates.  Upon completion, you will be registered as a trainer with the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics and receive a certificate.

Gear: Bring your own backpacking gear. Don’t have your own gear, not a problem.  You can borrow gear from our fully stocked gear room.  We will be backpacking in and out of a backcountry wilderness area.  Be prepared and dress for weather.

Instructors: Don Schafer and Brandon Cole, Leave No Trace Master Educators.

Contact: Don Schafer, don.schafer@camptown.net or register at www.camptown.net http://www.camptown.net (go to program information then register online).  Registration will be limited to the first eight registrations.

These courses are presented by Green Earth Outdoors, an affiliated partner and approved training provider for Leave No Trace Trainer Courses for the Leave No Trace Center for Outdoor Ethics.
